MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Happy smiles, big splashes and lots of fun. It’s something Myrtle Waves has been bringing to the community for 30 years.

Whether you create the impressive tidal wave type of motion from a water slide or maybe your splash is a bit smaller but with an equal amount of energy. It’s those moments of summertime fun that have been a part of this water park for three decades.

“We opened June 1, 1985 so certainly that was the 1980’s,” Myrtle Waves Marketing Director Rebecca Feagin said. “Beyond just trends we’ve grown certainly in size.”

Over the time the park has changed and adapted but still hopes to bring that same joy of water fun to both locals and tourists alike.

“Myrtle Waves has become a part of the Myrtle Beach Community,” Feagin said.. “There’s just such a tight knit and I guess nostalgia with the park that we’ve found over the years.”

The park will host a birthday celebration on Saturday complete with birthday cake as well as performances from Katy Perry and The Blues Brothers tribute artists. They will also be a part of the an attempt to break the world record for largest simultaneous swim lesson on Thursday this week. The large wave pool will become calm as many people take to the water to learn those essential skills of water safety.


“There are so many little ones today that don’t get formal lessons,” Feagin said. “If we can even provide some exposures for swim lessons to a few than hopefully we’ve helped save some lives.”

The lesson begins at 10:00 a.m. with registration at 9:00 a.m.  The first 50 people to register get in for free while all others will pay just $16.99 for the lesson and admission into the park for the rest of the day.  Regular park price is $26.99 for heights of 48” and $19.99 for heights under 48”. 

“As safety is our number one priority, we welcome guests to participate in the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson.” said Brent Owens, General Manager of Myrtle Waves Water Park. “This is our fifth year hosting the event and we hope that many area children and adults will join us for the lesson and learn how to swim.”

Team WLSL holds the current Guinness World Record™ for the largest simultaneous swimming lesson, which stands at 36,564 participants representing 22 different countries!
