PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WBTW) – A reported house fire has closed Myrtle Street in Pawleys Island.
The fire took place at a three-story home that had 17 occupants, who were inside at the time.Crews arrived on scene and had the fire contained within 15 minutes.
According to Midway Fire Rescue Chief Doug Eggiman, the fire damage was contained to a bathroom and the attic space just above it.
“Hats off to the smoke detectors for working and alerting the residents,” Chief Eggiman said. “And hats off to the residents for doing their job and calling us.”
Pawleys Island Police also responded to the scene, evacuated the residents and closing down Myrtle Street.
Pawleys Island Police tweeted out the street closure announcement around 1 p.m. Saturday.
