MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW)- A Myrtle Beach woman has been convicted of assaulting a police officer.

Kimberly Ruth, 57, of Myrtle Beach, was found guilty on Thursday “of assault on a police officer while resisting arrest,” according to a press release from the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. A circuit court judge sentenced Ruth to “five years in prison suspended upon service of three years of probation.”

The incident happened on October 22, 2014 when Horry County Deputy Sheriff Paul Abajan reportedly attempted to arrest Ruth and she allegedly resisted. Ruth is accused of fleeing in her vehicle, “which resulted in Abajan being dragged by the car for several dozen feet and he suffered significant injuries.”

Abajan requested leniency for Ruth at the time of sentencing, the release also said.
