MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Professional softball players will be playing in Myrtle Beach for the first time this week. Their games are at the Pelicans TicketReturn.com field on Thursday and Friday nights at 7:05 p.m. Pelicans Marketing Manager Kristin Call joined News 13 Now at 9 a.m. on Monday to talk about the excitment of having two pro teams visit Myrtle Beach. The Myrtle Beach Pelicans and TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark will host the Pennsylvania Rebellion, a National Pro Fastpitch women’s softball team, in a pair of games at 7:05 p.m. on both Thursday, July 28 and Friday, July 29.
“We’re excited to bring National Pro Fastpitch to Myrtle Beach and showcase the incredibly talented professional female athletes on these two teams,” said Pelicans general manager Andy Milovich. “These women have worked hard to reach the professional level and are a great example for any young female athlete.”
The two-day event is part of a slate of games that the Rebellion will play at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, the home ballpark of the Class A Delmarva Shorebirds, as well as Pennsylvania sports complexes in York, Lancaster and Allentown, respectively.
“We are looking forward to bringing the Rebellion and NPF softball to one of the premier vacation destinations on the east coast,” Rebellion general manager Steve Zavacky said. “This has been over a year in the making and Andy and his staff have been great to work with. We are looking forward to a great two days at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.”
National Pro Fastpitch has existed in its current form since 2004 and is an official development partner for Major League Baseball in the sport of fastpitch softball. The league has six teams playing a 50-game schedule throughout the year featuring seven-inning contests.
Every active former Olympian is playing in National Pro Fastpitch, including gold medalists Kelly Kretschman and Natasha Watley and silver medalists Monica Abbott and Andrea Duran. The league also features 2015 NCAA Player of the Year Lauren Haeger (Florida), the NCAA’s all-time home run leader Lauren Chamberlain (Oklahoma) and two-time NCAA Player of the Year Keilani Ricketts (Oklahoma).
