Myrtle Beach Police officers assaulted while making arrest Saturday night

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)- Two Myrtle Beach Police Officers were assaulted while responding to a call at a hotel on Ocean Boulevard Saturday night.

According to the police report, the officers were responding to a trespassing call and upon arrival say they had probable cause to arrest Christopher Wayne Debus.

The reports says when officers arrived Debus was sitting on a stairwell in the front lobby of the motel. His wife had called police saying he was causing a scene. After talking to him about his options, he agreed to give the keys to his wife so she could get her purse and leave.

Police say when the woman reached down to get her keys Debus tried to grab her right arm. That was when he was taken into custody and charged with domestic violence based on a prior history.

The report says when officers tried to place Debus under arrest he resisted the officers which resulted in him also assaulting them.

Debus has been arrested and charged with attempted murder, domestic violence, resisting arrest, and resist or assault law.

According to records from the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, Debus was released on March 16, 2016 after being charged with domestic violence in the 1st degree. The photo in the story is from that booking photo.

The police report from Saturday’s incident states that the victim had no visible injuries but said she was in fear for her life.
