Myrtle Beach Police K9s receive body armor

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)- According to the Myrtle Beach Police Department Facebook Page, three department K9s received body armor this week.

Thanks to non-profit, Vested Interest K9s Inc, Kelly, Alli and Roscoe received bullet and stab protective vests.

Each dog’s vest was sponsored by an anonymous donor and is embroidered with different quotes.

K9 Kelly’s vest is embroidered with the words “All the virtues of man without his vices”, K9 Alli’s vest includes the sentiment “And so you may live, my life is also yours,” and K9 Roscoe’s vest says “Loyalty, Honor, Courage, Strength”.

Since 2009, the charity has donated over 1,900 protective vests to K9 officers through private and corporate donations.

The donation cost to provide one protective vest for a police dog  is $1,050. Each vest has a value between $1,795  and $2,234.

Estimates show that there are 30,000 law enforcement K9s in the US.
