Myrtle Beach police are investigating after a pedestrian was injured in a hit-and-run.
The Myrtle Beach Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating the hit-and-run, which “resulted in great bodily injury to a pedestrian,” according to a press release from Cpl. Tom Vest, with the MBPD. The driver involved is in police custody.
Around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to the area of Highway 501 in Myrtle Beach in response to a report of a person walking in the road, the release says. Upon arriving, officers found the victim had been hit by a vehicle. The vehicle left the scene.
By using evidence at the scene and by using stationary license plate readers, police determined the vehicle was owned by Red Top Taxi, the release also says. Officers have contacted the owner of the company, who has “fully cooperated” with the investigation, and the driver was identified.
Charges are pending.
