Myrtle Beach police have all hands on deck for Carolina Country Music Fest

Thursday is the kickoff party for the Carolina Country Music Fest in Myrtle Beach.

Promoters say thousands of tickets have been sold for the three-day event, which starts Friday; and law enforcement agencies have worked around the clock to prepare.

Myrtle Beach police say they are taking an all hands on deck approach to making sure the first Carolina Country Music Fest is a success and stays safe.

All of the departments officers will be working this weekend either dedicated here at the concert or working their normal shifts outside of the event

A traffic plan will be put in place tomorrow morning that will divert drivers heading north on Ocean Boulevard at 7th Avenue North up to Kings Highway.

Another main focus is crowd control, Myrtle Beach police will begin patrolling the concert site ahead of Thursday’s kick off concert at 6:00.

16,000 tickets have been sold for the event so far and authorities say that adds to an already busy weekend.

“Historically this is a very busy weekend for us. Graduation happens June 1st and families start taking their vacations, so if you add that in conjunction to the concert, we do expect a lot of traffic in town. We’re asking motorists to please be patient, be mindful of your surroundings and give yourself a little extra time to get to your destinations,” said Lt. Joey Crosby.

To avoid congestion police are asking drivers to try and stay away from the 501/Kings Highway corridor and use alternate routes such as 21 Avenue North, the bypass or Grissom Parkway when possible.
