MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Myrtle Beach Police say they need your help getting guns off the streets to stop violent crimes.
Monday night, police met with members of the community to talk about the problem and ways they can help.
Magaline Grant has lived in Myrtle Beach her whole life. She says the city won’t be able to fix the problem until they focus on the youth.
“These kids, I don’t know where they get these guns from. We need to find out who’s supplying the guns and how do they get these guns when they’re under age,” said Grant.
This year, Myrtle Beach police have responded to the scene of a shooting multiple times, and Crosby says the problem is all over the city.
“It’s not just a matter of where those guns come from, it’s who has them, and that certainly does concern us,” said Crosby.
Crosby says that’s why they’re asking for help from the community.
“That’s why we’re holding these types of events is to educate the public as much as we can and to develop that partnership because it can’t be something that just police are doing alone. We have to have that partnership with the parents and with the community to help us,” said Crosby.
Crosby says the meeting was held after members of the community asked for a meeting specifically relating to gun violence at the city’s gang violence meeting a few months ago.
