MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A Myrtle Beach man entered a guilty plea in federal court this week for a gun charge, according to a press release from the office of United States Attorney Sherri A. Lydon.

Michael Jamal Grice, 35, of Myrtle Beach, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. A judge will sentence Grice at a later date.

Evidence presented in court established that on June 1, 2017, an officer with the Myrtle Beach Police Department was on patrol when he observed Grice make an improper right-hand turn from Canal Street onto Highway 501.  A traffic stop was conducted and upon approaching, the officer smelled marijuana coming from the car. The vehicle was searched and police located a stolen Springfield 9mm handgun.

Because he is a convicted felon, Grice is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition. Grice has a prior state conviction for possession with intent to distribute marijuana and a prior federal conviction for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the press release.

Grice faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, and three years of supervised release.

According to online booking records from J. Reuben Long Detention Center, Grice is currently in jail on multiple charges stemming from a February arrest in Myrtle Beach. Grice faces numerous drug charges, domestic violence second degree, felon in possession of a firearm and pointing and presenting a firearm at a person.
