Myrtle Beach man charged with robbing Dollar General twice

CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Horry County police say they arrested a man Sunday afternoon in connection to two robberies and a burglary.

Raul Denis with Horry County police says officers were investigating another incident around 2:45 p.m. when they recognized a man accused of robbing a Dollar General Store on May 16 and June 18, 2016.

Reye Carlos Serra, 24, of Myrtle Beach was arrested and booked at the Horry County Detention Center. According to J Reuben Long, Serra was charged with public disorderly conduct, two counts of strong arm robbery, and one count of burglary second degree.

Police reports say the suspect entered the Dollar General on Dick Pond Road to buy laundry detergent in May. When the cashier rang up the detergent, the cash drawer opened and Serra reached over the counter, emptied the cash drawer and walked out of the store.  The report says the suspect never said anything, never made threats and did not appear to have a weapon.

Serra was found to reside near the store in question, Denis said.

Reports from the June incident say the man walked into the Dollar General to buy shampoo. He handed the clerk $20 to pay, and when the cash drawer opened to get him his change, the suspect reached into the cash register and took a handful of cash. The clerk tried to close the drawer, and the man hit the clerk in the face before walking out the front door of the store.

Warrants from Horry County police say the man was positively identified through the surveillance video.

According to booking records through J Reuben Long Detention Center, Serra is still incarcerated.
