A Myrtle Beach man was arrested and charged after trying to steal city signs and biting a police officer.
64-year-old Major Adam Bellamy was arrested on Tuesday and booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, according to booking records. He is still incarcerated and is charged with entry on another’s pasture or lands after notice, assault while resisting arrest, simple larceny under $2,000, and three counts of threatening life, person, or family of a public official.
A police report from the Myrtle Beach Police Department says on Sunday around 9 p.m., officers on patrol noticed a suspicious red truck parked in the area of Myrtle’s Market at 600 Mr. Joe White Avenue. When officers approached the vehicle, they noticed a man picking up a sign that said “no loitering” off the ground. Upon making contact with the man, officers also noticed two other city signs in the back of the man’s truck. When officers attempted to arrest the suspect, the suspect resisted by pulling his arms away. Officers then made the suspect get on the ground and tried to arrest him again. The victim resisted by “swinging his arms around.” When a female officer tried to place the suspect into handcuffs, the suspect bit her fingers on her left hand “causing them to bleed.”
The report also says Bellamy has three previous convictions for larceny.
Bookings records show Bellamy has been booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center two other times since September. On September 29, he was booked and charged with third degree assault and battery, first degree burglary, malicious injury to real property with a value over $5,000, and first degree assault and battery. On June 11, he was booked and charged with driving under suspension, simple larceny under $2,000, operating an uninsured vehicle, trespassing, use of a license plate on a vehicle other than vehicle for which plate was issued, and no vehicle registration in possession.
