Myrtle Beach man arrested after leaving scene of deadly Horry County crash

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW)- The South Carolina Highway Patrol say they have arrested Terry Rushton in connection with an accident that killed a woman Friday on Limerick Road.

According to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center website, Rushton is from Myrtle Beach. Troopers say he has been charged with reckless homicide as well as leaving the scene with death.

According to highway patrol the crash occurred around 6:15 a.m. Friday on Limerick Road, just off of Forestbrook Road, landing the vehicle into a deep ditch off of the roadway.

Lt. Raul Denis with Horry County Police said officers were notified by the SCHP that the crash site was “suspicious.”

When officers arrived on the scene,they discovered a deceased female Mary Catherine Polk, age 45, of Little River in the passenger seat of the crashed car wearing only underwear.

Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden says Ms. Polk died of injuries sustained in the collision.

Rushton remains at the Horry County Detention Center. According to the detention center website he was granted a $70,000 bond Saturday afternoon for the hit and run and reckless homicide charges.
