Myrtle Beach City Council approved several mutual aid agreements with other South Carolina law enforcement agencies Tuesday for Memorial Day weekend.
Lt. Joey Crosby, with the Myrtle Beach Police Department, said so far they’ve reached out to agencies in South Carolina, Florida, and Georgia.
At this point, the city spokesperson said they will take as many officers as they can find.
Lt. Crosby said the city will pay each officer a per diem of $200 dollars for the weekend.
He said the money will come from the $1.9 million budget approved for Memorial Day weekend.
“When an officer checks in on that Thursday prior to the event weekend he or she will receive their assignment, who they’re working with, what area they will be working, they’ll also receive their 200 dollar card and they’ll also be given their motel instructions on what motel room they’ll be staying at,” said Lt. Crosby.
The city spokesperson said more agreements should be put before City Council as Memorial Day weekend approaches.
Right now, he said there is no final number on how many officers will be present.
