MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – On Tuesday the U.S. DOT ranked Myrtle Beach International Airport as having the lowest average domestic airfares in the state.
The press release from the airport says in 2016, the average domestic round trip airfare from the Myrtle Beach International Airport was $242.93, down from $255.90 this time in 2015. At the national level, the average domestic round trip air fare was $351.57.
The average airfare to/from Myrtle Beach International Airport is the lowest in South Carolina, and places MYR in the 10 percent of airports with affordable air fares in the United States.
Scott Van Moppes, interim director of airports for Horry County says the low rates are a result of having a mix of airlines serving the market.
“The mix of carriers serving Myrtle Beach International Airport provide the travelers a lot of options, while the influence of carriers like Spirit and Allegiant assist in keeping the average fare in and out of the Airport some of the lowest in the U.S,” Moppes said.
