After the Myrtle Beach High School’s Art Department entered the contest, VANS Shoe Company sent four different styles of white VANS shoes to use as a canvas to create designs. Viktoriya Pletskova, an art student at Myrtle Beach High School has customized the four pairs of sneakers with local flavor, art, music and action sports themes. VANS chose the themes.
Viktoriya used acrylic paints, paint markers and sharpie markers to create her works of art. She took various pictures of scenes that reminded her of Myrtle Beach. After brainstorming, Viktoryia created four pairs of unique custom Vans shoes matching the specified themes.
The contest consists of three rounds of judging. The top 10 high school submissions in each region, with the highest scores will advance to the second round of judging. The Myrtle Beach High School’s Art Department has submitted the creations in the initial round and is now waiting to find out if Viktoriya’s art work will advance to the next round. The Art Department will find out, Tuesday, April 19, if it advanced.
The second round of judging consists of public voting and the submissions score from the initial judging round. If the Seahawks Art Department advances to the second round, the public will have a chance to vote on the creations. You can cast your vote from Wednesday, April 27 to Wednesday, May 11. If the Art Department advances to the voting round, a link will be provided for the public to vote. That link is not available yet.
From that round, the top five submissions will make it to the final event, which will be held in Los Angeles in June. Again, the grand prize presented at this event is a $50,000 cash prize made by Van’s to the winning high school’s art program.
