Gaggles of geese are a common sight just about anywhere along the Grand Strand. If you’re looking for a solution to the geese problem in your neighborhood, you may want to give GooseBuster MB a call

GooseBuster owner Jack Baldwin uses a foam, remote controlled contraption called the “goosinator”. Baldwin can operate it on land or the water to chase geese away.

“I call her a super predator,” said Baldwin.

The method is called geese hazing. Baldwin says he’s the only one in South Carolina to use a craft like the goosinator to do it. The goose’s natural predators include foxes, coyotes and bobcats but unlike the goose buster, “They won’t go in the water after them. But the goose-inator will. She’ll go in and eventually the birds have choice … either they’ll fly or stay and possibly be attacked. So they fly.” he said.

Baldwin just started using the goosinator a little over a week ago, since SC DNR does not allow geese hazing from March until July since it is nesting season. However, he said calls are already pouring in from across the county and even different parts of the state.

“Socastee High School [on] August 1st was my first day. Since August 2nd, we have not seen a single goose there,” said Baldwin.

“If you can do it in a wonderful, humane way such as this. I don’t think you can go wrong with that,” said Glen Curtis.

Curtis said geese flock to his Surfside Beach neighborhood often, and is upset with how they were recently removed.

“They waited till about 4 or 5 in the morning. Then all of a sudden you hear the geese screaming and hollering. They were netting them and taking them away like that. I think it’s cruel and sadistic,” he said.

He’s not the only one. People living in the Cameron Village became outraged when the USDA removed from the neighborhood to be euthanized. However, Baldwin assures that’s not the intention of GooseBuster.

“We don’t want to harm the birds. We don’t want to destroy the birds. We want them to live and let live, and hopefully they’re going somewhere else,” said Baldwin.
