MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The Myrtle Beach Fire Department hosted the Rhonda Brown Golf Tournament Saturday morning at the River Oaks Plantation Golf Course. Brown was the Myrtle Beach Fire Department’s Administrative Assistant but recently passed away from cancer.
“If Rhonda was still with us, and I know she’s looking down on us, she’d be proud of what we’re doing for her and her legacy,” said Lieutenant Jonathan Evans.
Over 80 golfers made up 20 teams and proceeds will go to local charities including Relay for Life and The Red Cross in honor of Brown.
Niko Manou, a “handicapable” player, was also at the tournament. Manou lost the ability to golf with his hands so he uses special clubs for his feet.
The golf tournament is an annual event and the fire department is excited to raise even more money in Brown’s honor next year.
“She was always a very giving ‘second mother’ to a lot of guys coming in from different places,” Lt. Evans said about Brown. “We’re glad to do this for her.”
