MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) – People can still buy another round after 2 a.m. in bars in Myrtle Beach.
City council is considering an ordinance that would require nightclubs to close between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. in the city that is the heart of South Carolina’s $19 billion tourism industry.
But The Sun News reports the council has delayed an initial vote so city leaders can meet with the owners of nightspots to discuss the move.
Bar owners say the proposal would cost them business because many of their patrons are people who work at local restaurants and don’t get off any earlier.
Horry County Council last week gave tentative approval to similar ordinance. That proposal requires two more readings before it can take effect July 12.
