‘The BIG Sweep’ is a community cleanup effort to focus on the Downtown Redevelopment Corporation (DRC) District that will take place on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

The DRC has partnered with the City of Myrtle Beach to encourage all property owners, commercial and residential, to come out on this one day and work together to spruce up the area before our tourist season begins.  Several highly visible public areas in the DRC District will also be a focus of The BIG Sweep cleanup effort.

The main goal of The BIG Sweep is curb appeal. “We want all of the properties in our area to take a look at the outside of the property and determine what simple tasks can be done to enhance the curb appeal of their property.  It’s the simple things that will make an impact like trash pickup, landscaping, cleaning  windows and maybe a simple coat of fresh paint,” states Lauren Clever, DRC Executive Assistant.   “The downtown area is extremely important to all property owners and to our visitors.  The goal is to make a great impression on our visitors and locals so that they continue to visit year after year.   We plan to make this an annual event within the DRC District.”

The DRC is asking anyone who would like to volunteer to be a ‘BIG Sweep’ team member to visit www.thebigsweepmyrtlebeach.com to learn more about the cleanup effort and to complete a volunteer form.

Teams of volunteers and DRC and City staff will be assigned to several different areas in the DRC District.

‘The BIG Sweep’ will provide trash bags to businesses and residences by request to assist in getting rid of trash and the City  will be placing dumpsters within the DRC District to assist in getting rid of larger items that would not be picked up during a regular trash pickup.

The dumpsters will be available during the entire week starting March 16 through March 20, 2015 at key locations.

The BIG Sweep is a community partnership and the more volunteers and participants the better.  The DRC and the City are looking forward to showing off the downtown and its commitment to the visitors and locals.
