MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)- Myrtle Beach City leaders held a community meeting Monday night to showcase plans for street improvement and other beautification work to Carver Street.
City leaders say they will use $40,000 from PayGo dollars to create the gateway medians for Carver Street and $6,000 from the Alliance for Community Trees and the National Arbor Day Foundation funded by TD Bank to plant 30 trees in these medians and around the parking lot at the Garden of Hope.
People who live in the area say they are ready to see the improvements finally come to their community.
“We should get the same concern that other people get in their community. We want the same thing here,” Magaline Grant said.
“We haven’t really done much on Carver Street in about 18-19years when we went in and put sidewalks and storm drainage. There are a couple of churches on the streets so having some extra trees with the entrance to the parking lot will be a nice thing,” City Spokesperson Mark Kruea said.
TD Bank employees will assist with the tree planting activities on Saturday, October 29, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
In addition the tree planting activities on October 29, the Cultural Arts Advisory Committee will providing art activities for children in the Garden of Hope.
Councilman Mike Chestnut spoke at Monday’s meeting saying traffic is a concern on the road and the new medians and beautification efforts should help with that.
