MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Myrtle Beach city leaders met Wednesday to try to come up with plans to help make parts of Kings Highway more pedestrian and biker friendly.
Thanks to a $15,000 grant from the National Association of Realtors, Kings Highway between 3rd Avenue South and 13th Avenue South will soon see a face-lift.
City leaders canvassed that portion of Kings Highway Wednesday and say by making the area more pedestrian friendly around businesses, people will be more likely to walk in, stop, and spend money.
Kelly Mezzapeale works in the planning department for the City of Myrtle Beach, and she says they’ve been working on plans to better the area for a long time.
“The storefronts have been emptying out and some of the businesses in there have been running down and some of the businesses that have been persistent in doing well, their neighbors aren’t doing well, and that’s not good for them,” said Mezzapeale.
Thursday, a group of more than 30 volunteers are set to meet at city hall to walk around the area and tell leaders what they’d like to see changed.
