MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The Myrtle Beach global information system department held a GIS day event Wednesday at the base recreation center in the Market Common.

Local businesses, schools and the public were invited and workers demonstrated the real-world applications of geo-mapping and how it affects our lives.

“Everybody understands google maps and knows how to pull up and look for information but they don’t really understand just how awesome it is being able to leverage all of that different spacially oriented information in a way that allows scientists and engineers and the public to solve complex problems,” Senior Environmental Scientist Stephen Williams said.

GIS day is an event held not just around here, but around the world.
