MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)- The Myrtle Beach Campus of Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics (PIA) is now practicing for their inaugural participation in the annual Aerospace Maintenance Skills Competition.

The team is currently practicing twice weekly after school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Students are working on their competition categories and developing team skills, preparing for unknown variables by depending on the unique perspectives and experience of each team member.

“The competition means publicity that we’ve never been able to achieve for. And for the school what we do is we teach people to have the skills required to go work on air-crafts,” Instructor Greg Davis said.

Students hope what they learn in class combined with the competition lands them a job when they finish the program.

“I’m looking forward to being able to network with fellow maintenance technicians and also get to know the airlines and the businesses we prospectively could be working for,” Darryl Merchant said.

The Aerospace Maintenance Competition (AMC) is a venue for teams of certificated Aircraft Maintenance Technicians, Aircraft Maintenance Engineers and students enrolled in either FAA, EASA, CASA or equivalently authorized schools as well as personnel of any country’s Armed Forces that are involved in the aircraft maintenance and spacecraft maintenance field.

The competition will be held April 5 through 7, 2016 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas.
