Mustang Week brings muscle cars to Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Thousands of vintage and newer Ford Mustangs are in Myrtle Beach for 2016 Mustang Week.

It’s the 15th year Mustang owners and enthusiasts have been coming together and organizers say the rally gets more popular each year.

The rally is based at the Myrtle Beach Mall, but events take place all over the area.

Drivers packed the Myrtle Beach Speedway Wednesday, revving their engines and showing off a little muscle.

Organizers added a second day at the Speedway this year because they expected a bigger crowd than last.

One of the most popular events will be held at the Myrtle Beach Mall, a car show awarding the best rides always attracts a large gathering.

After years of growth, organizers said they wanted to move the location to a bigger site, but weren’t able to secure a spot.

“Space is the premium and finding a decent space where you get good passerby traffic and its good for the sponsors. We have sponsors from all over the country, we have to meet everybody’s needs and that becomes pretty difficult in finding space,” said Mustang Week staff member Brad Worley.

Worley said they had hoped to find a space for this year, but will continue the search for next year.

Horry County Police said two extra officers were added to patrol the event this year in anticipation of the crowds.

Mustang Week runs through Saturday.
