MURRELLS INLET, SC (WBTW) – Bond has been set for a Murrells Inlet man facing child porn charges.
Jason Michael Holsinger, 36, appeared in court on Wednesday for three charges of sexual exploitation of a minor, second degree.
Holsinger distributed child porn on his computer, according to the arrest warrant. Investigators said Holsinger used a file sharing network.
Child pornography was still being download/uploaded a day prior to the arrest, investigators said.
The judge set Holsinger’s bond at $15,000 total or $5,000 on each charge. The Horry County Solicitor’s Office asked for a $50,000 bond.
Three counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor are felony offenses, and Holsinger could face up to ten years in prison for each charge.
The solicitor’s office said more charges could be filed.
“Based on what law enforcement’s told me, law enforcement have reason to believe that there might be more child pornography involved,“ Pierce Haar, assistant solicitor, said. “We still have to complete an inventory of the suspect’s device, devices in this case, judge, and that there might be a lot more child pornography.“
Holsinger was booked in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Wednesday.
It was revealed in Wednesday’s hearing he is originally from New York but has lived in the Murrells Inlet/Myrtle Beach area for fifteen years and lives with his girlfriend.
Solicitor Jimmy Richardson told News13 after the hearing that it’s important to note that Holsinger’s charges are for possessing child pornography and not producing it.
“It does not mean that any of the children are local; parents shouldn’t necessarily be worried that their child is in this,“ Richardson said. “A lot of these are foreign-born children.“
Holsinger was arrested following an investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children task force. The group was started by the state Attorney General’s office, which will prosecute this case.
