MURRELLS INLET, SC (WBTW) – A Murrells Inlet dentist was jailed after Department of Health and Environmental Control agents discovered she distributed oxycodone to family members without having medical proof the drug was needed.
An arrest warrant from DHEC states Dr. Barbara Ann Todd, 61, of Murrells Inlet Dentistry, illegally distributed oxycodone, the generic drug for Percocet, for several months in Georgetown County. DHEC agents say Todd unlawfully gave the schedule II narcotic to “a family member and significant other without legitimate medical purpose during the usual course of her professional practice.”
The warrant details that Todd illegally dispensed the pain medication between January 6, 2015 and September 8, 2015 without being able to “produce records indicating legitimate medical need at the time of issuance of prescription or dispensing of medication.”
A second arrest record for Todd indicates the Murrells Inlet dentist provided fraudulent information or omitted information in records required to be held for controlled substance while performing her duties as a registered dentist.
Todd was booked into the Georgetown County Detention Center December 30 at 8:56 a.m. and was released about three hours later on a $10,000 bond. Todd is charged with manufacture or possession of schedule I, II or III drugs with the intent to distribute and violating drug distribution laws.
