A murder suspect from a Pawleys Island bar fight exactly 2 years ago was arrested Sunday after police say he “severely” bit the nose of a woman — so badly that it was first believed the woman had been shot in the face.
Horry County Police were called on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. to the Sandy Monkey Bar and Grill, 3034 Highway 17 Business, Murrells Inlet, for a report of a shooting.
Officers did not find a shooting but did find an aggravated assault in which a man assaulted a woman by biting her severely on her face and, according to a witness, kicking her while she lay on the ground.
Christopher Brian Campbell, age 39, of Lexington, SC and Myrtle Beach, SC was charged with one count of Criminal Domestic Violence of a High and Aggravated Nature.
Campbell, who was free on a $75,000 surety bond, was charged along with another man in the Feb. 9, 2013 slaying of Thomas Edward Unrue, Jr., who was married and had children, at Lumpy’s Bar and Grill in Pawleys Island, Georgetown County authorities say.
When police arrived at the bar incident over the weekend, the man’s hands were covered in blood from the victim, a 35-year-old woman from Connecticut. Police later determined the bite was to the woman’s nose.
The suspect resisted arrest and was hit by a police Taser, police said in a report. The suspect was “ultimately apprehended without injury.”
In the bar slaying from 2013, deputies arrived at the bar at 3 am Feb. 9 and found the victim knocked out in the parking lot.
“When the responding sheriff’s deputy checked the victim for vitals, it was determined CPR was needed. Once CPR began, it was continued until EMS arrived and transported the victim to the Georgetown Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead,” Georgetown Officials said in a report.
“After interviewing multiple witnesses, it was determined the victim was asked to leave the establishment on more than one occasion which led to a verbal dispute just outside the front door. The verbal altercation led to a physical altercation out in the parking lot where Campbell and (another man) attacked the victim until he was unconscious,” Georgetown Officials said.
Campbell is currently at J. Reuben Long awaiting a bond hearing.
