CONWAY, S.C. (AP) – A mural painted more than 30 years ago which has become a landmark in downtown Conway is being restored.

Local media outlets report that the city this week announced that artist Thomas Simpson has been selected to restore the mural created in 1983.

The mural is located on a wall just across from city hall and shows a steamboat cruising down a river. Over the years, the wall has deteriorated.

The City of Conway is donating $5,000 for the work while the Burroughs and Chapin Co. is donating another $5,000. The work is expected to be done early this summer.
