SYLACAUGA, Ala. — A Sylacauga High School student assaulted Friday night is still in critical condition at UAB. His mother says the whole ordeal has been a real-life nightmare.
“I went to Wendy’s in Sylacauga to get something to eat, and while I’m in the drive through, my son was being assaulted,” said Brandi Allen. “We could’ve lost him!”
Brian Ogle suffered head and brain injuries after he was assaulted Friday, September 30, in the old Ace Hardware parking lot in Sylacauga.
Allen says her son received threats online after commenting on a post about Black Lives Matter. One threat suggested Brian would be attacked at the high school football game.
“This most certainly is a race issue. It’s a hate crime!” said Allen. “I’m trying to understand how anyone – I don’t care what the color of their skin – could do this to another human being,” said Allen.
Now the family is looking for justice. According to Sylacauga Police Chief Kelley Johnson, the department has identified suspects in the case and they will be seeking arrest warrants.
“I want them punished to the fullest extent. My son could’ve lost his life. I won’t stop until they are punished,” Allen said.
As of Sunday night, no arrests had been made in the case.
