MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The mother of the 11-month-old baby reported missing Wednesday was detained in Columbia and transported back to Myrtle Beach Friday afternoon.
Myrtle Beach Police Captain Joey Crosby says while he cannot release the mother’s name as formal charges have not been filed, he can confirm that the woman was taken into police custody in Coumbia and was transported to Myrtle Beach Friday.
Captain Crosby says officers learned Wednesday afternoon than an 11-month-old baby had not been seen since July. Investigators with the Myrtle Beach Police Department say a search warrant was served Thursday night in reference to the missing child.
An investigation was opened and officers served a search warrant on a home on 3rd Avenue South Thursday around 7 p.m. Police K9 crews were at the home Thursday night.
Friday morning, Capt. Crosby confirmed the mother of the missing child was in police custody. Police have not released the mother’s name, but say she will be identified after she is formally charged and arrest warrants have been obtained.
Capt. Crosby did not release any information related to the missing child but asks that anyone with information contact police.
“At this time we do suspect that foul play is involved in this investigation; however, the public is not in danger,” Captain Crosby said in a press release.
Investigators have identified suspects in this investigation, Captain Crosby said Thursday.
The property manager for the home that was searched says he spoke with police and officers asked him about the missing child.
“They asked me about the child, asked me when the last time I had seen the child, and I told them as far as I could recollect, it was roughly about two months back when I last seen the child,” says property manager Arnold Laws.
South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s special victim’s unit is assisting with the investigation.
