MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – The 2015 Miss South Carolina Pageant is set to get under way in just a few days. More than 50 contestants will compete for the crown this year.

Among those contestants competing for the coveted crown is Miss Socastee 2015 Morgan Elvis. She is the younger sister of Heather Elvis.

Morgan says everything she has been through in the past year is why she is participating in the pageant. She says her goal is to help and inspire others who are in a similar situation and experiencing the same type of pain.

“Through me her story keeps going so when I go and I talk about my platform help. I’m going to talk about how my platform came to be and how I can’t do anything. I can’t be out in the woods searching, I can’t make speeches an interrogate people but I can give back and help people hurting in that same situation,” Elvis said.

As Morgan prepares to head to Columbia for a week of activities on Friday, the community gathered for a prayer vigil Thursday night to mark a year and a half since Heather Elvis disappeared.

People in the community along with the Elvis family gathered at Peachtree Landing. It’s where Horry County police found Heather’s car and believe she was murdered.

Those who attended prayed for peace, strength, for people to come forward and for a new trial date to be set for the Moorers. Horry County police charged Tammy Moorer and Sidney Moorer with Elvis’ murder.

Morgan says that as she prepares for the pageant her sister will be on her mind and is the reason behind her platform. She will compete in the preliminaries Tuesday, June 23 through Thursday, June 25, 2015.

The final night of competition will held on Saturday, June 27, 2014. All competitions will be held once again at the Township Auditorium in Columbia, South Carolina.
