CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – A jury continued to hear testimony from witnesses Tuesday in the kidnapping trial against Sidney Moorer.

Moorer’s charge stems from the disappearance of Heather Elvis. She’s been missing for more than two years.

Day two of the Moorer trial began at 9:30 a.m. with the State calling its first witness of the day to the stand. Stephano Schraldi says he took Heather Elvis out on their first date on Dec. 17. After going out to eat, he says they went back to his mother’s house to hang out and watch a movie. He says he took Elvis home after the movie wrapped up. He said he was at her apartment for about 5 minutes before leaving.

Schraldi said he called Elvis twice the next day. He did not hear back from her. He assumed “she was busy.”

The state then called Horry County Police Officer Officer Casey Guskiewicz to the stand. He said Elvis’ vehicle was found at Peachtree boat landing and was parked awkwardly. He says the car was locked. He did not see keys/phone inside. Guskiewicz said it’s not uncommon for people to leave vehicles at the boat landing. No incident report was filed.

The State then called its third witness of the day, Horry County Police Sergeant Danny Furr, to the stand.  He said he contacted Sidney Moorer by phone and told him authorities were looking for Elvis. The said there was a pause on the phone on Moorer’s end. Furr said Moorer said he hadn’t talked to Elvis in about 6 weeks, before saying he spoke the night before.

The public got its first look at phone records from Elvis’ phone through testimony from Sgt. Jonathan Martin. At the time of Elvis’ disappearance, Martin worked as an investigator with the Horry County Police Department.

Records gathered and confirmed by T-Mobile center on calls between 1:35 a.m. and 3:41 a.m. on December 18, 2013. The first phone call received by Elvis during that duration was from a payphone on Seaboard Street and Mr. Joe White Avenue, according to testimony from Martin. Following that phone call, records show Elvis called her roommate, and then repeatedly attempted to call back the payphone and Moorer’s phone.

Martin testified Moorer admitted to using the payphone to call Elvis at 1:35 a.m. on December 18, 2013.

Additional witness testimony from Amelia Bethea, with SLED, detailed a trip to Walmart in Myrtle Beach in the early morning house of December 18, 2013. Surveillance video presented during Bethea’s testimony showed what appears to be Moorer in the store.

Bethea says Moorer purchased a cigar and pregnancy trip during that trip.

Additional witnesses called to the stand from the Horry County Police Department detail surveillance video from a Kangaroo gas station on Seaboard Street and Mr. Joe White Avenue. Detectives claimed Moorer used the payphone at the gas station in the early morning hours of December 18, 2013.

On Wednesday morning, the jury is scheduled to board a bus at 8:30 a.m. that will take them to the area around Peachtree Landing. During that time, they are expected to see surveillance camera locations. Judge Dennis, prosecutors and the defense will also travel with the jury.
