The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported more than 100 wrecks in Anderson, Cherokee, Greenville, Oconee, Pickens and Spartanburg counties as the sun went down Monday.

Those areas already have — in some places — between a quarter and half an inch of sleet and ice, which started around 4 pm and has spread east.

By 8 pm, Bennettsville was reporting sleet while St. Pauls in Robeson County NC reported a mix of sleet and freezing rain.

Duke Energy reported about 3500 power outages in Anderson County and near Pauline in Spartanburg County on Monday evening.

A winter storm warning was in effect for six western South Carolina counties that border North Carolina. Forecasters say up to a quarter-inch of ice could coat trees and power lines as the freezing rain continues.

A storm system heading our way will bring mostly rain Monday night and Tuesday morning, with some ice possible in the Pee Dee.

The exact track of this storm system will determine what areas change to all rain, and what spots see more freezing rain.
