LORIS, S.C. (WBTW) – A group that’s supposed to get people back to work in Horry County has announced more than 1,000 new jobs over the last five years.

WBTW obtained a report Wednesday on the Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation. Some companies it’s helped have brought more jobs than promised. Another company that was supposed to be open, but isn’t.

About 60% of the jobs promised over the last five years have become real jobs. Josh Kay, the president and CEO of Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation said he’s pleased with the progress.

“In the calendar year of 2016 we’ve announced 292 jobs which is the second largest amount of full time manufacturing jobs that have been announced in Horry County in the last five years.”

We found that some companies are doing better than expected. Frontier delivered 42 more jobs than it promised.  But we also found that one company, Accent Stainless Steel was supposed to open in Loris by the end of 2014 according to a press release.

That company didn’t break ground until September of 2015.

We went by the building on Wednesday. There’s no sign of it being open. There’s also nothing inside.

Kay said he expects the company to open in Loris sometime within the next 60 days.  The company promised to bring 65 jobs. So far there’s only five jobs.

Kay said creating jobs isn’t a fast process and the company has a five year period to fulfill the promise.

Other companies have similar time frames to deliver promised jobs.

“For Horry County this is a big deal. This is a large multinational company that we are excited about having an operation in Horry County and certainly Loris.”

We tried to find where you can apply for a job at accent stainless — but none were posted.  Kay told News13 that was because the company is now interviewing their first round of applicants.

We did reach out to Accent Stainless Steel Wednesday for comment. They didn’t call us back.
