Final preparations are being made for next week’s Atlantic Beach Bikefest.

Local media outlets report that will mean a 24-hour command center and more ambulances on the road.

A safety plan including a one-way traffic loop is being put into effect for the Bikefest on the long Memorial Day weekend which last year turned deadly when three people were shot and killed in Myrtle Beach and seven wounded.

Horry County’s emergency operations center will be operating 24-hours a day from May 21 through the long weekend.

Top county officials and county council members will get twice-daily status updates.

Horry County Fire Rescue officials say 10 additional ambulances will also be on the road during peak times during Bikefest.
