MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The mother of an infant found dead in a pond near the Tanger Outlet Stores off US 501 outside Myrtle Beach has been charged with murder.

According to arrest warrants, Jameisha Ka’Tara Alexander, 24, of Carrboro, NC was arrested and charged Tuesday for the murder of her 6-week-old son King Khalil Jair Alexander.

The baby was found floating in a pond behind the shopping center Sunday evening. An autopsy found the six-week-old drowned.

Arrest warrants stated the victim was seen with his mom earlier in the day before being found dead in the pond.

Alexander was found two hours later after wrecking her car, the warrant said.

During that time, Alexander did not attempt to contact authorities or anyone for help, according to the report.

According to the Associated Press, Alexander’s mother and grandmother said she was overwhelmed with her first child, but that she loved the boy.

The AP also said that her mother, Sandra Jones, said the baby’s father was abusive and didn’t support Alexander. She says Alexander was being seen for depression before and after the baby’s birth.
