Authorities in southern Brunswick County say that a missing teen girl made contact with her family and is on her way home after her SUV was discovered abandoned Thursday.

Ashley, age 17, was last seen at her home in Shallotte at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, officials with the Shallotte Police Department said.

Police found her abandoned 2009 Ford Explorer at a convenience store in Brunswick County on Thursday morning, the Star News reported.

“She didn’t show up for school at West Brunswick High School,” investigators in Shallotte said late Thursday afternoon.

Officials said that Ashley also did not report at her job on Thursday.

According to Shallotte Police Chief Rodney Gause, Ashley has been safely found and is on her way home.
