MURRELLS INLET, SC (WBTW) – South Carolina DNR and the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office found the body of a missing boater Tuesday morning.
Search crews found the body of 17-year-old Jacob Causey around 11 a.m., Georgetown County Coroner’s office said.
Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer, Carrie Weaver, said a small boat struck a channel marker just north of Wacca Wache Marina in Murrells Inlet Monday night around 8 p.m. Two men were on board.
Weaver says one boater was quickly found, and crews searched extensively for the second boater until the search had to be suspended until Tuesday morning. DNR and crews from the sheriff’s office were back in the water Tuesday morning where they recovered Causey’s body.
“He always used to call me pretty boy and blondie and whatever else he could think of just to make you laugh,” said friend Austin Hansmeyer.
Hansmeyer said Jacob loved hunting, fishing and God.
“If you spent the night at his house on a Saturday, you better get up and you’re going to church in the morning,” he laughed.
Causey was a student at Calvary Christian School. The school posted a short statement and photo of Causey to its Facebook page Tueday afternoon, saying:
Our deepest sympathy to Mrs. Causey and the rest of Jacob’s family. Jacob and his family have been a major part of Calvary for many years. Today the CCS family is in deep sorrow at this great loss, but “not as those who have no hope.” I Thes. 4:13
An autopsy will be conducted Wednesday morning, according the coroner.
