FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – The Miracle League of Florence County kicked off its fourth season Saturday morning with an opening at Savannah Grove Community Park.

The miracle league gives kids the opportunity to take the field and play baseball.

First grader Annyia Mouzon sang the national anthem before the opening started and not only does she enjoy singing but playing baseball.

Annyia’s mother says she’s been with the miracle league for three years now.

“It just gives us great pleasure to be able to be involved with the ball games and have her interested in it and she always geared up and ready to play ball,” said Stephanie Tedder.

Playing ball is something 35 year-old Jackie Hoch says she’s looked forward to all season, but it’s not all about playing the sport she enjoys..

“Every time I see somebody running or walking it just brings a lot of miracles here. If you watch a game and come down here you’ll see a miracle happen just like that,” said Hoche.

Hoche says a miracle happened to her more than three years ago when she first joined the miracle league.

“I was trying to find other things that I could do, so when this opportunity came up I was like oh my goodness I am going to play for miracle league,” Hoche said.

The miracle league hold baseball games geared specifically for those with special disabilities and while Saturday’s opening was held on a regular baseball field, the president of the Florence County Miracle League says they’re looking forward to a more accommodating field to help those who may be physically or visually impaired.

“You know at times that gets tough with wheelchairs and walkers and stuff, especially when it rains a little bit so our goal is to build our own miracle league field,” said Kevin Elliott, President of Florence County Miracle League.

Through the years, the miracle league has grown from 40 players to more than 90 this season.

Players are partnered with a volunteer buddy to assist and encourage them during the game.

The president says they hope to start moving dirt for their new field in the next month.
