FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – Chesterfield-Ruby and Lake View Middle Schools won Saturday’s Pee Dee area Academic Challenge tournaments at Francis Marion University.

30 middle schools competed over the last month, culminating in Saturday’s regional tournament.

After a full morning of matches, the finals were set for the afternoon.

In the Division One final, which consisted of 90 questions, Chesterfield-Ruby Middle School beat Johnakin Middle of Marion, 38-31.

In the Division Two, all-Dillon County, final it was Lake View 39, Latta Middle 29.

Chesterfield-Ruby and Lake View now head to the state tournament next month in Laurens.

Pee Dee-area high schools battle in two weeks at Francis Marion.

The Pee Dee Education Center puts on the Academic Challenge each year.

The Center is a consortium of 16 school districts, Coker College, and Francis Marion University and provides support for the region’s school districts.
