GEORGETOWN, SC (WBTW) – Dozens of people gathered for the unveiling of a Memorial Wall dedicated to Georgetown County veterans on Saturday.
The American Legion Post and Veterans of Foreign Wars have been planning the memorial for the last three years. They held the memorial dedication along with the annual Wreaths Across America Ceremony yesterday on Church Street, between American Legion Post 114 and VFW Post 6444. The memorial wall honors all Georgetown County veterans, including those who served in the Revolutionary War. State Representative Carl Anderson from the 103rd District also attended the ceremony. One of the stones in the memorial wall is dedicated to his son, who was a member of the U.S. Air Force and died while serving overseas. “Our granddaughter here, Danielle, she never met her Uncle Carl. Got killed, hit a roadside bomb four days after he turned 21. So this means a lot to our family to see his name on the monument. 21 years but he really accomplished a lot,” said Anderson.
