More options are becoming available when it comes to treating addiction of any kind.
12-step programs or other counseling-based programs are options, along with in-patient treatment facilities. Medication assisted treatment has become more popular in recent years especially for opioid addiction.

Adam Blanton, a physician assistant at SC Primary Care Specialists said he has seen success with medicines such as suboxone that help people wean off opioids.

“(They’re) able to get their job back. They’ve got their vehicles, their kids back, their whole lives together. Seeing all of that change is really amazing,” Blanton said. “You can see it as fast as the next week. I mean it’s just, it’s not a long term, but you it slowly evolved. I’ve seen it happen within a week’s time. They just have a glow about them that they’re happy, and they don’t have this burden on this shoulders of going back to using.”

South Carolina Primary Care Specialists works with Shoreline Behavioral Health Services and Circle Park Behavioral Health Services to find addiction treatment plans for people.

Shoreline, Circle Park and Tidelands Health teamed up to provide an addiction information phoneline Thursday for people who had questions or need resources to help battle substance abuse in the eastern Carolinas.
