McLeod Sports Medicine provides 837 sports physicals

FLORENCE, SC – The goal of McLeod Sports Medicine is to prevent and care for injuries associated with sports participation. One of the ways they prevent injuries is by offering pre-participation sports physicals to determine if it is medically safe for students to participate in high school athletic activities.

On Saturday, April 16, 2016, McLeod Health physicians, nurses, therapists, certified athletic trainers, residents, and volunteers worked together to perform a total of 837 pre-participation sports physicals for local high school athletes. In addition, The James R. Clark Sickle Cell Foundation provided sickle cell testing.

McLeod Sports Medicine offers this service one time each year at McLeod Family Medicine as a part of their commitment to the athletes in the schools they serve.  The physicals are performed at no cost to the student athlete.

Physicians who performed the physicals include providers from McLeod Family Medicine & McLeod Family Medicine Residency Program, Pee Dee Orthopaedic Associates, McLeod Plaza Family Medicine, McLeod Family Medicine Health & Fitness, McLeod Occupational Health, and McLeod Family Medicine Timmonsville.

Participating schools included: Timmonsville High School, Lamar High School, Wilson High School, South Florence High School, West Florence High School, Darlington High School, The King’s Academy, Florence Christian School, Pee Dee Academy, Lake City High School, Mullins High School, Trinity-Byrnes Collegiate School, Marion High School, Creek Bridge High School, Johnsonville High School, Robert E. Lee High School, and Hannah-Pamplico High School.

McLeod Sports Medicine will also provide annual physicals for the schools they serve in the counties of Marlboro and Chesterfield.
