LORIS, SC – On Wednesday, March 2, 2016, McLeod Loris OB/GYN physicians and labor and delivery nurses participated in a new state-of-the-art mobile simulation training program.  Offered by the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS), SimCOACH™, the first mobile simulation laboratory in South Carolina and one of only a few in the nation, is aimed at improving health outcomes for moms and babies in South Carolina. This education is part of the South Carolina Birth Outcomes Initiative (SCBOI).

The hospital labor and delivery team participated in 90-minute sessions, led by a maternal-fetal medicine specialist and the SimCOACH™ staff, that simulated real-life scenarios, including obstetric and neonatal emergencies. The education provided on this 50-foot vehicle teaches best practices to help reduce non-medically necessary C-sections in first-time, low-risk moms as part of the Supporting Vaginal Birth (SVB) initiative.

In addition to the simulation training, SCDHHS is working with SCBOI to provide webinars, peer to peer maternal-fetal medicine discussion and provider education to assist hospitals and health providers in their efforts to achieve this.-This information is from a Press Release.
