Everyday thousands of Americans are diagnosed with diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, and/or hypertension. These conditions can be avoidable, so McLeod Loris Seacoast has developed a way to educate the community on offering a better lifestyle to improve these conditions, or avoid them.
South Carolina is ranked 10th in the U.S. for obesity, and ranked 10th in the country for diabetes diagnosis. McLeod Loris Seacoast’s medical teams see the need to help the community improve awareness of these health risks. McLeod Loris Seacoast Diabetes Management Coordinator, Christie Hardee, RN, CDE, CPT, partners with Registered Dieticians, Deanna Fisher RD, and Tamra Sutherland, RD, to facilitate “Healthy Lifestyles” Nutrition/Diabetes Management Classes offered at McLeod Loris and McLeod Seacoast. These classes equip participants with tools to offer daily awareness of how to improve their quality of life after being diagnosed with diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and/or heart disease.
Registered Dietician, Deanna Fisher stated, “At the heart of good health is good nutrition. Whether you are facing crisis or simply managing the challenges of fast-paced living, you can learn to take good care of yourself.” Christie Hardee, RN, CDE, CPT stated, “The patient has control of their blood sugar, but many let it control them. These classes will share with patients easy steps to help them cope with diabetes.”
