Matthew Hunt Case- One year later

LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – It has been one year since Matthew Hunt went missing while riding his moped to work, his family wants answers…

“It’s been a year with no answers, Matthew riding on that moped. He did not even have a weapon, or anything to defend himself,” said Hunt’s grandmother said,  Frances Phillips.

Anita Hunt, Aunt of Hunt adds, “He was on his was to work, and he had been in an accident because the moped was in the road.”

After a two day search, members of the Robeson County Sheriff’s Department found Hunt’s body, shot to death a few feet from Alamac Road.

Phillips said, “He was missing for the two nights and the three days, laying under that tree”

Anita Hunt adds, “He didn’t deserve that, he died alone… in the dark. I have a hard time with that.”

Hunt’s family pleads for anyone who may have information to let Detectives know.

Hunt pleads, “If you know anything, no matter how small it seems- if you ride across this road and you think of something. Pick up the phone, call the Sheriff’s office.”

“I hope and pray you can’t sleep or you can’t eat. Or when you close your eyes… you see Matthew. Maybe it will touch the person’s heart that did this, and they’ll say I was wrong.”

Hunt created a Facebook page dedicated to unsolved murders and disappearances in Robeson County.

Robeson County authorities tell us the case is still open. Within the last month, the Sheriff’s Office got information about the night of Hunt’s death.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 671- 3100.
