MULLINS, S.C. (WBTW) – Many families in Marion County are living in shelters because their homes are flooded to the roof. Sunday Martin’s Staking Rink in Mullins worked to ease the stress on parents and children.
More than 20 kids enjoyed time out of the shelter. For some, this was their first time out of the shelter since Hurricane Matthew made landfall.
Martin’s Skating manager Tanya Holcomb said the event was planned over night with the help of the Mullins High School Principal who provided transportation.
“We just wanted to give back in some way with everybody coming together. If we can bring them in and the children and the adults can play games, skate, eat for three hours without any of that on their minds. Then it was well worth putting a smile on their faces,” Holcomb said.
Later this week the skating rink plans to have another skating day for kids at the shelter.
