MARLBORO COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – A family in the Wallace area of Marlboro County has gone the extremes to keep flooding around their home from getting any worse.
Lumber, bricks and a bunch of dirt is what John and Sandy Malloy used to make a walkway from their front door step to the end of their driveway.
“We were carrying our mud boots to the truck, putting our shoes on in the truck, then when we get back home we’d have to put our boots back on and walk through the water, carry our 9 year-old through the water, our groceries through the water, ya know it’s been rough,” said John Malloy
Malloy says the water is two feet deep in his backyard. And a duck was even seen swimming in the flooded front yard.
“If you walk straight to the back corner it’s up to your knees. It’s been here a month. It’s just getting worse,” he added.
In the meantime the family is doing everything they can to handle the situation themselves.
“We bought a pump from Lowe’s for $100 and we have over one hundred foot of line that we’re running into the woods to try and pump it out of our yard,” explained Sandy Malloy.
It’s something the family has been doing for three weeks.
“We can let it run five or six hours at a time before it gets too much and we have to turn it off,” said Sandy Malloy.
The problem has left the two homeowners in disbelief.
“We worked hard on this land ourselves. We cleared it off ourselves and then you know its underwater so it kind of hurts you know,” said John Malloy.
“Last night I have to be honest with you, I just stood at the door and just cried. It’s frustrating, but there is nothing that we can do, like I said we’ve been pumping for three weeks,” mentioned Sandy Malloy.
The Malloy family says they will continue using the pump they bought until they get some type of help.
