MARION COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – The first annual “Celebration of Heroes” event is a salute to veterans, armed service members, law enforcement and first responders. Live entertainment and a cornhole tournament are just a few of the activities during the event.

“We’re here to celebrate birth of our nation– to honor our veterans and those who protect and serve us each day,” says William ‘Bo’ McMillian, Mayor of Mullins.

The Swamp Fox Entertainment complex in Marion celebrates America with an event designed to bring unity to the community. The Mayors of Marion, Mullins, Sellers, and Nichols teamed up to help make the event happen.

“Our Mayor coalition saw the need to bring the community together. A long time ago Marion was against Mullins, Mullins was against Marion and so forth. But it’s not like that anymore,” explains Bobby L. Davis the Mayor of Marion.

“We are united,” Barbra Hopkins, the Mayor of Sellers adds. “Personally, I hope people come out with their families and have a good time. I hope they see how we are trying to bring the community together.”

Proceeds from the “Celebration of Heroes’” event will go to the Marion County Animal Shelter.

“The proceeds will go to the Marion County Animal Shelter to help the dogs. As most folks of Marion know, the animal shelter was donated the Anderson Brothers Bank building. This will help them renovate that new building,” Mayor Davis explains.
